LOUISVILLE, Ky (WHAS11) -- One of the University of Louisville's biggest fans, U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has picked the Cardinals to win the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship in a tournament bracket released to WHAS11 News.

McConnell predicts U of L will defeat the Indiana Hoosiers in the championship game.  He selected Ohio State University and Virginia Commonwealth to fill out the Final Four.

The Cardinals (Midwest Region) and Hoosiers (East Region) are both number one seeds in the NCAA Tournament.  VCU is the fifth seed in the South Region.  Ohio State is seeded second in the West Region.

McConnell's bracket predicts Western Kentucky University will make NCAA history.  The Republican Leader has the 16th seeded Hilltoppers defeating one seed Kansas in the opening game, a feat never accomplished by a 16 seed.  He then has WKU advancing to the Sweet 16 with a victory over Villanova.
