(WHAS11) -- One Illinois lawmaker is pushing for a ban on the sale of lion meat.
Chicago democrat Luis Arroyo is sponsoring a lion meat act. He claims he knows of at least two places in Illinois that sell lion meat but he would not say where.
The proposed state law would make it illegal to slaughter lions or sell their meat. Violators could face up to one year in jail and a $2,500 dollar fine.
It is legal to sell lion meat in the United States but the fish and wildlife service is reviewing that position.
