CINCINNATI (AP) -- Potential 2016 presidential candidate Rand Paul of Kentucky has been announced as keynote speaker for a major southwest Ohio GOP banquet.
Hamilton County Republican Party chairman Alex Triantafilou says the party wanted a national figure for its annual Lincoln-Reagan fundraiser dinner. He says organizers are thrilled that Paul agreed.
The senator from Ohio's neighbor is among several Republicans often mentioned as possible contenders. Ohio is a perennial political battleground state, with two of its own possible candidates in Gov. John Kasich (KAY'-sik) and Sen. Rob Portman. Kasich spoke at the dinner last year, and Hamilton County native Portman will introduce Paul.
Triantafilou says details including time and place are still being worked out for the May 16 event.
