LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Everywhere you turned this past weekend the potential race of Ashley Judd and Mitch McConnell was front and center and the actress hasn't even declared her candidacy.
If and when she does, it really will be the talk of the nation.
Her different acting roles have her walking the red carpet, but her role as a potential candidate taking on McConnell is already drawing a supportive cast. Many said she is on the verge of announcing she is in and it could happen when all eyes are on Kentucky -- Derby time.
McConnell, one of the most powerful republicans in the country, said he is ready.
Judd grew up in Kentucky, but doesn't live here now and that will have to change. Her residency is already a focus of attention by McConnell. So is what republicans call her liberal agenda and close ties to President Obama.
There’s no doubt her name recognition and her ability to raise money will be pluses, but some who've weighed in also said in a celebrity driven culture a celebrity candidate can occasionally eclipse a lifetime legislator.
For now, Judd not officially saying she's in just yet, but in a statement over the weekend she said, “I am not sure who is saying this stuff but it is not I.”
