(WHAS11) Hearings will continue next week in some Kentucky lawmaker’s efforts to pass a domestic violence bill that would better protect victims.
The problem right now with the Amanda Ross bill is that judges in Kentucky are not sure how the proposed law would work.
The measure passed the State House last month and would require judge’s to issue a GPS device, along with an emergency protective order; the device would purportedly provide another level of security for victims.
Rep. Greg Stumbo, (D) House Speaker said, “I want them to like this tool. I want them to be confident with this technology and the protection that it offers, so we have to be cognizant of their concerns.”
Judges who would handle these cases are in civil courts and would be required to make decisions about the threat level to the alleged victim, and whether a GPS ankle device is warranted.
