LOUISVILLE, Ky (WHAS11) -- Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes will attend next month's Fancy Farm picnic and participate in its traditional political speeches, a Grimes spokesman confirmed on Tuesday.
Earlier Tuesday, the campaign of five-term incumbent Mitch McConnell challenged Grimes to appear at the picnic. Yet the Grimes campaign said Grimes had always planned on attending, always attends Fancy Farm, enjoys it and is proud of strong support across West Kentucky.
Last week, Grimes had informed many of her supporters in West Kentucky of her plans, according to spokesman Jonathan Hurst.
"Kentuckians will be interested in hearing Sen. McConnell explain his near thirty year Washington voting record," Hurst told WHAS11. "It will also be interesting to hear Sen. McConnell spin how he isn't part of the Washington mess."
The Fancy Farm political speeches are scheduled for Saturday, August 3.
