LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- It's a word the Pentagon used to describe Fort Knox this week when talking about possible places to shelter immigrant children.

That word the defense department associates with Fort Knox? Vacancy.

There is late word that Governor Steve Beshear plans to formally voice his concerns to the secretary of the Army about possible cuts at Fort Knox and Fort Campbell.

A special assistant to the governor on this issue said additional cuts are not reasonable, as Kentucky has paid a stiff price already.

The One Knox Policy Council of the Hardin County Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the CORE Committee, the Kentucky Commission on Military Affairs, area chambers of commerce and community leaders, is asking the public to electronically sign a letter discouraging the Army from making further cuts in personnel at Fort Knox.
