(NEWS RELEASE) -- Alison Lundergan Grimes, Kentucky’s Secretary of State and Chief Election Official, announced on Friday that a special election will be held on Dec. 18, 2012, to fill the vacancy in the office of State Senator, 16th Senatorial District.
The Honorable David L. Williams, former Senator for the 16th District, resigned effective Nov. 2 vacating the remainder of his term. On Nov. 8 pursuant to KRS 118.730, Governor Steve Beshear issued and Grimes certified a writ calling for an election to fill the vacancy.
The deadline for Republican and Democratic candidates nominated by their party and independent candidates to file their certificates and petitions with the Secretary of State is Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 4:00 p.m.
