FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — The former Republican Senate floor leader who gave up his post when Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear appointed him to an open judicial seat has now filed to run for a full term on the bench.
Dan Kelly filed the necessary paperwork on Friday that will allow voters to decide whether he keeps the circuit judgeship.
The election is next year.
Beshear appointed Kelly to the judicial position last month, the latest move in an attempt to sway the Senate's balance of power and improve his odds for passing a bill to expand gambling in Kentucky.
