COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — U.S. Senate candidate Jennifer Brunner's campaign apparently will be able to keep equipment paid for by her former state campaign as long as the Senate campaign pays $15,000.
The successful Ohio secretary of state campaign for Brunner bought $15,000 in office equipment and other supplies the week before shutting down when Brunner announced her Senate candidacy. The Senate campaign asked the Federal Election Commission if it could own the equipment by donating $15,000 to charities.
Federal regulations prohibit a candidate from directly using state campaign assets to finance federal races.
FEC lawyers propose that the money be paid to charities or to Brunner's husband's law firm. That firm is landlord of the defunct state campaign.
The commission will consider the proposals next week.
