AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The indictment of Texas Gov. Rick Perry makes him the third prospective Republican presidential candidate to face the prospect of kicking off a White House campaign while worrying about legal troubles back home.

Prosecutors continue to look at the actions of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, but the challenge for Perry may prove far more serious.

A grand jury in Austin has charged him with two felony counts of abuse of power.

Perry has dismissed the case as political and continued to travel the country, rehabilitating his national image following his disastrous 2012 White House run.

Though the case may not resonate with voters outside Texas, "indictment" may be a loaded enough term to complicate his political future for as long as the it continues.
