WASHINGTON (AP) — Strange twists in Mississippi's Senate Republican race are grabbing the most attention in Tuesday's primary elections in eight states.
Sen. Thad Cochran seeks a seventh six-year term. He faces tea party-backed state Sen. Chris McDaniel.
Also nominating candidates for the Nov. 4 elections are voters in Alabama, California, Iowa, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico and South Dakota.
The Mississippi race turned bizarre when four McDaniel supporters were charged with crimes after one of them photographed Cochran's wife in her nursing home. She has lived there 12 years and suffers dementia.
McDaniel said he had no role in the incident. Both campaigns have accused the other of underhanded tactics.
