WASHINGTON (AP) — House Majority Leader Eric Cantor is boasting in a campaign mailer of shutting down a plan to give, quote, "amnesty" to "illegal aliens."
The flyer sent by his re-election campaign comes as Cantor is under pressure over immigration ahead of his June 10 GOP primary in Virginia — and with immigration legislation stalled.
Advocates on the left are accusing Cantor of standing in the way, while his tea party opponent claims he backs amnesty.
Cantor is not viewed as vulnerable, but he has been taking steps to shore up support.
The flyer references President Barack Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and says, quote: "Conservative Republican Eric Cantor is stopping the Obama-Reid plan to give illegal aliens amnesty."
