JASPER, Ind. (AP) — The owner of a furniture distribution company in southern Indiana says he's seeking the Democratic nomination for the congressional seat now held by Republican Larry Bucshon (boo-SHAHN').

Sixty-three-year-old Tom Spangler of Jasper has never run for office before, but tells the Evansville Courier & Press (http://bit.ly/1npswqo ) he decided after last year's partial federal government shutdown that Congress is broken and needs new perspectives. He says he's owned furniture company L.U.I. PLUS since 2002 and has worked in the commercial furniture business since the 1980s.

Bucshon is running for a third term representing southwestern Indiana's 8th District. Bucshon is facing conservative challenger Andrew McNeil for the Republican nomination.
