FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Former Democratic congressional nominee Bill Adkins has filed candidacy papers to run for circuit judge in Carroll, Grant and Owen counties.

Adkins, a Williamstown attorney who lost to Republican U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie last year, said Thursday he opted to run for judge rather than to make another congressional bid.

Dry Ridge attorney R. Leslie Knight has also filed to run for the seat now held by Judge Stephen Bates.

Adkins, a native of Letcher County, lost to Massie by some 20 percentage points in the contest to represent the 4th District, which covers the northern tier of Kentucky from the Louisville suburbs to Ashland.
