INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The director of an Indiana local government investment pool has become the third Republican to announce a run for state treasurer next year.
TrustINdiana investment pool director Kelly Mitchell emailed GOP county chairs over the weekend to announce she's running for the office. The two-term former Cass County commissioner joins Marion Mayor Wayne Seybold and Richmond financial adviser Don Bates Jr. in the race.
The (Munster) Times reports Mitchell (http://bit.ly/18fMqxb ) is expected to have the backing of current Treasurer Richard Mourdock, whose second term ends this year.
Bates lost Republican primaries for the U.S. House in 2012 and the U.S. Senate in 2010.
No Democrat has announced plans to seek that party's state treasurer nomination.
