SEYMOUR, Ind. (AP) — Former Seymour Mayor Bill Bailey says he's seeking the Democratic nomination for Indiana's Ninth District congressional seat.
Bailey, a former state representative, said Wednesday he initially planned to declare his candidacy in September but decided to wait until the federal government shutdown began this week. He tells The (Seymour) Tribune that "Congress will continue to be dysfunctional as long as we re-elect those that have shown their inability to get anything done except argue.
The Ninth District seat currently is occupied by Republican Rep. Todd Young. He won re-election to a second term in 2012 over Shelli Yoder, who was nominated over four other Democrats.
