SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Democrat Brendan Mullen says he will not run in 2014 for the 2nd Congressional District seat won by Republican Jackie Walorski last November.
Mullen was a political newcomer and lost the election by fewer than 4,000 votes. Walorski began running for the seat shortly after losing to incumbent Democrat Joe Donnelly two years earlier.
Mullen said in an email sent to the media Friday afternoon that he and his wife, Suzanne, decided against him making another run in 2014. He says for now he is focusing on expanding his business, raising two young children and starting to begin seeking an executive MBA from the University of Notre Dame.
But he says he plans to continue to be an active voice in the community.
