INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Gov. Mike Pence is interviewing candidates to replace departing state auditor Tim Berry.
Pence said Thursday he has spoken with four people, including state Rep. Tom Saunders. Pence has tapped Berry to run the Indiana Republican Party, creating a vacancy in the auditor's office.
The governor repeated Thursday that whoever he picks should expect to seek a full term in office next year.
Pence said he has talked recently with Treasurer Richard Mourdock, but not about the auditor's job. Mourdock has been mentioned as a candidate, but party leaders have sought to minimize his presence in the 2014 elections because of comments he made last year about pregnancies resulting from rape.
