FORT MITCHELL, Ky. (AP) — Former U.S. Rep. Geoff Davis is going back to consulting work, joining with lobbyist Hunter Bates, a former chief of staff to U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell.

Davis, a Republican who represented the 4th District until he resigned in July, says he won't do any government lobbying. Former members of Congress are banned for one year from lobbying.

Before being elected in 2004, he ran Capstone Inc., helping businesses improve efficiency. The Kentucky Enquirer (http://cin.ci/YyoroV ) reports he plans to do the same type of consulting in the new Republic Consulting LLC.

Davis resigned with three months left on his term, citing a family health issue. He said Thursday the issue involved one of his children and that the resignation gave him time to "get that in order."
