FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Democratic Attorney General Jack Conway has filed to seek re-election, ending weeks of speculation that he might opt out of the race.

Conway submitted his paperwork to the secretary of state's office on Friday. He has no Democratic opponent.

Hopkins County Attorney Todd P'Pool is seeking the Republican nomination. He is the only GOP candidate in the race after former Kentucky Chief Justice Joseph Lambert announced he won't seek the Republican nomination.

Lambert said he had fully intended to enter the race, but dropped out because he would have had to resign his post as senior judge.

Several of Conway's top aides have resigned or retired in recent weeks, fueling speculation that he might not seek a second term.
