FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Alison Lundergan Grimes has filed candidacy papers to enter the Democratic primary for secretary of state.
The Lexington Democrat officially entered the race on Thursday. She will face Bowling Green Mayor Elaine Walker, who is scheduled to become secretary of state when the incumbent resigns on Jan. 31.
Walker is filling the unexpired term of Republican Trey Grayson, who resigning with 11 months remaining in his second term to head Harvard University's Institute of Politics.
Gov. Steve Beshear chose Walker to replace Grayson.
On the Republican side, western Kentucky businessman Bill Johnson is the only candidate who has filed so far.
