LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer isn't ruling out a run for governor next year as the former basketball star mulls his political options.
Farmer told reporters Thursday that he expects to be on the ballot next year, but he's still considering whether to run for governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state or another statewide office.
Senate President David Williams has spoken with Farmer about forming a ticket to run for governor and lieutenant governor. Both Republicans said Thursday their decisions will be announced soon.
Farmer is a former basketball standout at the University of Kentucky. He said his "dream job" would be as UK's athletic director, but said that's not an option right now.
Farmer made the comments at the annual Kentucky Country Ham Breakfast at the state fairgrounds in Louisville.
