Police: Inmate breaks another man's jaw after bothersome phone call

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A Metro Corrections inmate is facing assault charges after he allegedly punched a fellow inmate.

According to a police report, Collin Schmitt, 20, struck another inmate in the face with his fist. Schmitt and the victim were in the booking area of the jail during the incident.

The report says Schmitt has just gotten off the phone and was apparently angry about the call.

The victim was knocked unconscious and taken to University Hospital, according to the report. The victim suffered a broken jaw which will require surgery. The victim will likely lose several teeth and numbness may never go away, according to the report.

The entire incident was caught on video surveillance. Schmitt has been charged with first degree assault.
