(WHAS) -- A cringe-worthy mistake was made by a local news station in California when they reported inaccurate names of the pilots involved in the deadly San Francisco plane crash.

This aired just after noon on Friday and an apology was quickly issued by both the station and the NTSB.

A summer intern reportedly acted outside the scope of his authority when he erroneously confirmed the names of the flight crew on the aircraft.

The NTSB said they never release or confirm names of people involved in transportation accidents.
