WASHINGTON (AP) — The FBI has released surveillance footage of the Washington Navy Yard gunman in action.
Aaron Alexis, a 34-year-old former Navy reservist and IT contractor, shot and killed 12 people inside a Navy Yard building last week before being killed in a shootout with police.
On Wednesday, the FBI confirmed that Alexis acted alone. Agents say Alexis left his backpack in the bathroom, where he assembled his weapon.
Authorities haven’t revealed a motive, though Alexis had been struggling with psychological problems. He sought treatment for insomnia in the weeks before the shooting.
At a press conference Wednesday, officials also say there are multiple indicators that Alexis believed he was being controlled by electromagnetic waves.
The FBI also released images, one of which shows the weapon used in the rampage with an etching that reads “End The Torment.”
