MARLBORO, N.J. (WHAS11) -- In the wake of the Sandy Hook shootings, one New Jersey community is adding armed guards outside all schools.
Armed officers sat in patrol cars outside every elementary, middle and high school in Marlboro, N.J. as students went back to class Wednesday morning, Jan. 2.
Town officials say the move was a preventive measure.
They call it a necessary step after the shootings caused them to revisit school safety and security.
The town has about 8,000 students and nine schools.
