(WHAS11) -- One mother is coming clean about how her baby’s hygiene habits.
Claire Goss, a 32-year-old mother of three, has recently confessed online to only bathing her 3-month-old baby about once a week.
"I will confess it has gone longer than a week," Goss said.
Goss said that nightly baths were part of the bedtime routine, but after three children and five years, she doesn’t have the time.
"My first baby got her daily baths sometimes two bathes a day,” Goss said. “What I realized now after five years of parenting children is he's not a dirty kid, he's a baby."
Goss’ Babble Blog post “Do you really need to bathe baby” has started a lot of conversation on the blog from online moms. One reader posted “lazy people!” Another added, “Ewwwww that’s so gross.”
But not all mom’s are disgusted, as one poster put, “Their skin would be dust if we did soap and water every day.”
While Goss would feel gross not showering daily, she has reasons as to why she doesn’t bathe her baby as often.
"I would feel gross because I'm an adult and I have hormones but I have to go back to.” Goss said. “Mothers know their babies, they have gut feelings about their babies and I would never presume to tell you how often to bath your baby,"
Goss said it’s not only for convenience, but a matter of health for the baby.
"My pediatrician told me with my second that I was bathing him too frequently because his skin was dried out,” Goss said.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics too many trips to the tub can decrease a babies natural bacteria count and subsequently make the baby more susceptible to infections and rash however they do still advise that it's best to wash babies at least 3 times a week.
For now, Goss said she’s okay with her nightly routine.
