NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (WHAS11) -- North Andover schools sent home 'fat letters' in an effort to help students fight obesity, but some parents don't appreciate the approach.
The district sent home letters with students whose body mass index shows they're overweight or obese.
The letters are supposed to be a helpful tool for parents, but some families find it hurtful.
According to several parents, they are working with state representatives to stop more fat letters from being sent home.
The school district said parents can opt out of the body mass index screening.
