(WHAS 11)--Already this year 19 children in the US have died after being accidentally left in a hot car.

But a Nashville elementary student has come up with an invention that could prevent it.

Andrew Pelman is 11, his invention the EZ Baby Saver and it is the result of a challenge by the University of Akron, requiring kids invent something made primarily of rubber bands.

One end of the rubber band device hooks on to the back of the driver’s seat.

The other end attaches to the driver's side door.

So a driver can't exit the car without being reminded of the baby in the backseat.

The EZ Baby Saver came in as runner up in the nationwide contest.
