(WHAS 11)--A top general caught up in the Petraeus scandal has been cleared of allegations that he wrote potentially inappropriate emails.
The Defense Department inspector general found that the allegations against General John Allen were unsubstantiated.
Allen had been accused of sending the emails in question to Jill Kelley.
Kelley is the woman who led to the FBI investigation that blew the lid off CIA Director David Petraeus's affair with Paula Broadwell.
Kelley claimed she was being threatened by Broadwell.
Petraeus later resigned from his post at the CIA.
