(WHAS11) -- An extremely overweight Texas dog is getting the help he needs to slim down, but he really needs a home.
Bear the doberman was dropped off at a shelter weighing in at 147 lbs.
The goal weight for a dog his size is just 80 lbs.
His extra weight isn't just affecting his physique. Bear also has cholesterol issues, joint trouble and a thyroid problem.
Thanks to Lone Star Doberman Rescue, Bear has already lost seven pounds and is on track to lose even more.
The treatment plan includes four small meals a day and starts with short walks.
Over time, trainers will work him up to longer, more challenging exercises.
Once he gets back in shape, rescuers will start looking for Bear's forever home.
