Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - Just in time for the busy summer grilling season, the cost of beef is reaching an all-time high.
Experts said extreme weather has brought down cattle populations to the lowest level since 1951.
Also, exports to Asia, as well as supplier contracts with fast food chains are driving up the cost of beef.
The cost is being felt at wholesalers, restaurants and grocery stores.
Norm Langer, owner of Langer's Delicatessen, said, "It's an issue about everybody in the industry and the availability of product and what we are going to have to pay for it due to the scarcity."
