'Corpse flower' set to bloom in Washington D.C.

(WHAS 11)--The titan arum which is known as the ominous corpse flower will be in bloom likely through next Friday at the U.S. Botanic Garden Conservatory near the capitol.

They call it that because when it blooms it smells like rotting human flesh.

Botanists say that the titan arum doesn't have a traditional annual blooming cycle. Instead, it flowers unpredictably, sometimes spanning for as long as several years before blooms.
