DALLAS (AP) — The American Heart Association has outlined seven essentials for keeping the heart healthy and living a long life. The group is also posting an online test to help people check their progress.
The keys to heart health are: Stay away from cigarettes. Keep a slender physique. Get some exercise. Eat a healthy diet and keep cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar in check.
Dr. Clyde Yancy, president of the American Heart Association, says that research shows that most 50-year-olds who do that can live another 40 years free of stroke and heart disease. The heart association published a statement listing the seven key factors in the online journal Circulation on Wednesday.
