PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A dozen jurors and four alternates have been chosen to hear a graphic trial about a 5-year-old girl abducted from her Philadelphia classroom and sexually assaulted.
The only person charged so far is Christina Regusters, a 21-year-old former day care worker. However, both her lawyer and the victim's family believe other people are involved.
Regusters has rejected a plea that would have sent her to prison for 40 to 80 years.
Defense lawyer Fred Harrison Jr. hopes witness testimony will yield new information about the case. Bench warrants are being issued to get some witnesses to court.
The young victim is also set to testify.
Police say she was taken from her kindergarten last year by a woman posing as her mother, then abandoned the next day at a playground.
