TOMPKINSVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A southern Kentucky woman has pleaded guilty to complicity to murder and avoided a possible death sentence had she gone to trial.
The Glasgow Daily Times reported (http://bit.ly/1qNuuRA ) that 36-year-old Chasity Hagan entered the plea Thursday in Monroe Circuit Court. Hagan had been charged in the April 2012 death of 63-year-old Brenda Howard.
Howard was found dead at her residence in Monroe County by a family member; she had been beaten and stabbed. Police say robbery played a role in the slaying.
As part of the plea deal, Hagan must testify against co-defendant, John William Smith. No trial date has been set for Smith.
Hagan's final sentencing before Judge David L. Williams is scheduled for Aug. 15.
