CATLETTSBURG, Ky. (AP) — The case against a northeastern Kentucky man charged with the beating death of another man at a hotel has been sent to a grand jury.
Boyd District Judge Scott Reese concluded Wednesday that there's enough evidence to conclude that 52-year-old Joe Bentley of Ashland is responsible for the death of Russell Chandler, who died June 21 after a fight at the Bluegrass Inn in Catlettsburg.
Bentley has been in jail since his arrest July 6, charged with first-degree manslaughter.
The Independent reported (http://bit.ly/1tUZTqZ ) that the two men had been arguing. A witness told investigators he saw Bentley punch Chandler in the face and head.
Bentley was returned to the Boyd County Detention Center and Reese set his bond at $50,000.
