HUNTERS HOLLOW, Ky. (AP) — Operators of a failed sewage plant in Bullitt County say temporary holding and processing tanks could be handling all the plant's wastewater by late Thursday.
Sanitation District Director Jerry Kennedy tells WAVE-TV (http://bit.ly/PoGlbC ) he estimates the plant has spilled more than 1.5 million gallons of raw sewage onto the ground and into a nearby stream since the Saturday failure.
Meanwhile, Division of Water spokesman Dick Brown says the plant has received seven notices of violation since October 2009.
In an email to the station, he said the plant operators consistently failed to report system overflows. They also were cited for improper operations and maintenance, and degradation of the waters of the Commonwealth.
Officials said it was unclear how soon a permanent fix could be in place.
