WYLIE, Texas -- Police arrested two 16-year-old Wylie East students Saturday for the murder of a third student, 17-year-old Ivan Mejia.

According to Wylie Police Sgt. Donna Valdepena, late Saturday night Wylie police dispatch received a call from Garland police regarding a murder investigation. Garland officers had responded to a suspicious vehicle report at about 9:40 p.m. west of Firewheel Mall and located an unoccupied vehicle backed in near the tree line.

Officers walked further into the wooded area and saw two males running from the area. The officers went back to the vehicle and waited, and a short time later the suspects returned. When asked what they were doing, the teens told police they were "burying a body."

Officers detained the suspects, then went to the scene the boys were running from earlier. They found Mejia dead.

According to a Wylie police press release, further investigation revealed the murder occurred behind Wylie East High School on Bennett Road. After the murder, the teens brought the body to Garland.

Police also said the murder was preplanned, but did not elaborate.

Police say the two arrested teens and Mejia were all Wylie residents and attended Wylie East High School.

Garland and Wylie police are investigating the case.

The suspects' names were not released, as they are juveniles. They are currently in the Collin County Juvenile Detention Center charged with 1st Degree Murder.

"The entire Wylie ISD community is shocked and saddened by this senseless act," a release from the district said. "We are cooperating with the police as they investigate, and we hope they will be able to provide us with some understanding how this tragedy unfolded."

The school is on spring break this week, but a district spokesperson said grief counselors will be present when classes resume.
