FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes has officially filed paperwork for her U.S. Senate campaign in Kentucky.
Grimes, who is Kentucky's secretary of state, was joined by Gov. Steve Beshear and four former governors at the signing event Thursday.
Her family members in attendance included her maternal grandmother, Elsie Case, who has appeared in campaign ads on behalf of her granddaughter.
Grimes is her party's front-runner in this year's Senate race as Democrats try to reclaim a Senate seat from Kentucky.
Candidates in the Republican primary include Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Louisville businessman Matt Bevin.
McConnell, the state's longest-serving senator, is seeking a sixth term.
