LAS VEGAS, N.M. (AP) — The Las Vegas Optic has a new publisher and editor.
The northern New Mexico newspaper announced (http://bit.ly/1eH2lWe) Monday that Martin Salazar has been appointed publisher and editor after serving as interim general manager and editor for nearly a year.
Dan Sykes, executive vice president with the Shelbyville, Ky.-based Landmark Community Newspapers, the paper's parent company, said in a statement that Salazar played a major role in addressing key issues and making sure the Optic was positioned better for the future.
A Las Vegas native, Salazar earned his journalism degree from the University of New Mexico. His career in newspapers includes stints at the Gallup Independent, the Wenatchee World in Washington state and the Albuquerque Journal.
In March 2013, he became interim general manager when publisher-editor Tom McDonald resigned.
