CANNELTON, Ind. (AP) — State police say two men were killed and a woman badly injured when speeding car went off a southern Indiana highway and hit a tree head-on.
Sgt. Philip Hensley says the crash happened about 12:30 a.m. Thursday along Indiana 66 near the Ohio River town of Cannelton in Perry County.
He says 35-year-old driver Terry Burden Jr. and 49-year-old Brian Nugent were both trapped inside the car that caught fire after the crash. The men from Tell City were pronounced dead at the scene about 50 miles east of Evansville.
Hensley says 27-year-old Sarah Metcalf of Hawesville, Ky., was a back-seat passenger and escaped from the wreckage. He says Metcalf has been taken to a Louisville hospital in critical condition with a shattered pelvis and internal injuries.
