LATONIA, Ky. (AP) — A military veteran who police say held his children hostage for more than 15 hours during a standoff with police is expected to be released from the hospital.

Kenton County Commonwealth's Attorney Rob Sanders told The Kentucky Enquirer (http://bit.ly/18TLDEQ ) that 43-year-old Michael Vaughn will be taken to the Hamilton County Jail in Ohio upon being discharged.

Kenton County will then begin the process of extraditing Vaughan to Kentucky. Covington police plan to charge Vaughan with attempted murder of a police officer and other offenses.

Police say Vaughn held them at bay for more than 19 hours, set fire to a home in Latonia and exchanged gunfire with officers before surrendering eight days ago.

Police believed that Vaughan was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
