UNDATED (AP) — President Barack Obama says the recent partial government shutdown is actually an opportunity for Democrats to show voters the virtues of their vision for government ahead of the 2014 midterm elections.
Obama says the bitter budget fight "a symptom of a larger challenge" concerning what role the government should play in helping Americans succeed. He spoke yesterday at a fundraiser.
Meanwhile, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is claiming the partial federal government shutdown is a win for Republicans because it got people talking about the Affordable Care Act conservatives want to dismantle.
He spoke to influential Iowa Republicans yesterday, again calling the health care overhaul a disaster and saying the shutdown "elevated the national debate."
