(KMOV) – A man who believed he was the father of a child for years and made thousands of dollars in child support payments is seeking to be repaid after finding out he wasn't the father.
Lekardo Pitts filed a lawsuit against Edwardstine Reese in St. Clair County court on July 10.
According to court documents, judges in St. Clair County Circuit Court ordered Pitts pay thousands of dollars in child support and other benefits after he claims Reese led him and the court to believe he was the father of a child.
Pitts initially waived his right to undergo basic DNA testing to confirm he was the father because he claims he believed Reese.
But Reese recently got married and wanted paternity tests done so the child could be adopted by her new husband.
That’s when it was discovered Pitts was not the biological father.
Pitts seeks to retain more than $30,000 in compensatory damages and more than $100,000 in punitive damages, as well as attorney fees and court costs.
Additional information on the lawsuit was not immediately available
