CRESTWOOD, Ky. (AP) — Police say a central Kentucky woman has been taken into custody after officers were called to her home and found her boyfriend dead.

Oldham County police said in a statement that they were called to the Crestwood home Saturday morning about a possible homicide. They arrived to find 44-year-old Michael T. Evans dead.

Police say 51-year-old Gail Kelley told officers she struck Evans in the head with a hatchet, killing him.

Police say Kelley was taken into custody and charges are pending.

Oldham County jail officials said Saturday afternoon that Kelley wasn't lodged there. It wasn't clear whether she had an attorney.

Neighbor Dana Evola told The Courier-Journal that the couple fought often and had argued all day Friday.

Police said no further information would be immediately released.
