LEITCHFIELD, Ky. (AP) — Three people, including a toddler, died in a mobile home fire in central Kentucky.
Eddie Clouse; his son, Cole Clouse, who would have turned 2 next month; and a family friend, Kalvin King, were killed in the fire that started just before 11 p.m. CDT Sunday near Leitchfield, The Record in Grayson County (http://bit.ly/10eEvIr ) reported.
Cole's aunt, Rachel Wooldridge, said the boy's mother, Shauna Clouse, and brother, Aydan Clouse, escaped along with a friend and her son.
Wooldridge was staying next door with her parents, Willie and Carrie Wooldridge. Willie Wooldridge tried to go into the home to save the toddler but couldn't get past flames coming from the structure, the newspaper said.
William Whobrey, incident commander of the fire scene, said seven firefighters made an "aggressive interior attack" through the front door to fight the fire but it was too late to save the three inside.
Deputy Kentucky Fire Marshal Chris Crawford said the cause of the fire was under investigation.
The fire had already flashed over or was consuming the home from floor to ceiling when firefighters arrived, but the Leitchfield Fire Department managed to bring the fire under control quickly, Crawford said.
The home that burned is located on VanMeter Road near Leitchfield.
