WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (AP) — Authorities in southern Kentucky say a person who had been hoarding dogs surrendered them and the local shelter is overflowing.
Deanna Myers with the Whitley/Knox County Humane Society told WLEX-TV ( http://bit.ly/110LRXc ) in Lexington the case is probably the largest the shelter has dealt with. Nearly 60 dogs were rescued from a home on Thursday and officials expected to remover about 20 more on Friday.
The Homeward Bound rescue group in London, Ky., is helping find homes for the dogs, most of which are healthy. Myers said rescue groups from Chicago have also come to help.
The society is having an adoption event Saturday at the PetSmart in Richmond because the local shelter was at capacity before the rescue.
