MORGANFIELD, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky Transportation Cabinet official says an Ohio River bridge has reopened hours after being hit by a barge.
Spokesman Keith Todd said in a statement that inspectors found no structural damage and determined the Kentucky 56-Illinois Route 13 bridge that connects Morganfield, Ky., and Shawneetown, Ill., bridge was safe for traffic.
A towboat pushing 15 empty barges grazed a pier of a bridge connecting western Kentucky and southern Illinois at 5:38 a.m. CDT Thursday. It was reopened around 9 a.m. The towboat pilot reported minor damage to the barges.
An estimated 3,800 vehicles cross the bridge each day.
